IRBA Registered Auditor: route and 2026/27 fees
How to become a Registered Auditor (RA) with the IRBA, and the fees effective 1 April 2026.
Only a Registered Auditor can sign an external audit opinion in South Africa. The Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA) keeps the register. Most RAs are CA(SA)s who trained at an audit firm with an IRBA-registered training contract.
The route
- Qualify academically and enter an audit training contract at an IRBA-accredited training office. The contract is registered with the IRBA.
- Complete the training and the professional qualification (for most people, CA(SA)).
- Apply to register as an RA. Applicants under the IRBA's three-year rule attend a proficiency interview.
- Keep up the annual renewal and CPD.
