Construction Health and Safety registration (CHSO, CHSM, CHSA): steps and 2026/27 fees
How to register with the SACPCMP as a Construction Health and Safety Officer, Manager or Agent: experience required, exams, steps and the 2026/27 fees.
The Construction Regulations 2014 changed what a safety appointment on site means. Clients and principal contractors now ask for SACPCMP-registered health and safety practitioners, and many sites cannot appoint you without it. The SACPCMP has five categories on this side: Candidate Construction Health and Safety Officer, Construction Health and Safety Officer (CHSO), Construction Health and Safety Manager (CHSM), Candidate Construction Health and Safety Agent and Professional Construction Health and Safety Agent (Pr CHSA).
Which category fits you
- CHSO: no formal qualification is required, but you need a minimum of four years of relevant practical experience.
- CHSM: no formal qualification is required (RPL is accepted), with a minimum of five years of relevant practical experience.
- Pr CHSA: a qualification at NQF level 7 (360 credits) and a minimum of seven years of relevant practical experience. The agent is the person who can be appointed by a client to manage health and safety on its behalf.
- Candidate categories exist for people still building the experience.
The steps
- Register on the SACPCMP CHS portal (mychs.sacpcmp.org.za) and select the category.
- Upload certified qualifications, your CV with dates and project values, and letters confirming your experience. Pay the application fee.
- CHSO and CHSM applicants write the Council examination. Agents go through an eligibility assessment and a professional interview.
- Pay the registration fee once you pass, then the annual fee every year, and keep up CPD.

How to show it on your CV
Put the category in your headline ("Construction Health and Safety Officer, SACPCMP") and your safety record in the first line of your current role. Contractors read registration and LTI record before anything else.
