SACPCMP registration: from Candidate to Pr CPM or Pr CM, with 2026/27 fees
How to register with the SACPCMP as a Candidate and then a Professional Construction Project Manager or Construction Manager: requirements, steps and the 2026/27 fees.
The South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions registers four categories on the project and construction management side: Candidate Construction Project Manager, Professional Construction Project Manager (Pr CPM), Candidate Construction Manager and Professional Construction Manager (Pr CM). Public clients increasingly ask for one of these on tender returnables and in job adverts, so the category you hold is a keyword in its own right.
Who should register as a Candidate
Register as a Candidate as soon as you have a qualifying built-environment qualification and are working on projects. Candidacy gives you a structured programme and a mentor, and the clock on your experience starts counting in a way the Council recognises. The rules give a candidate a maximum of seven years to complete the structured candidacy programme.
What you need for Professional registration
- A qualification at NQF level 8 (480 credits), for example a BSc Honours in Construction Management or Construction Project Management, a Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Management, or a recognised equivalent or RPL certificate.
- A minimum of five years of relevant practical experience for both Pr CPM and Pr CM.
- A portfolio of evidence that maps your experience to the Council's competency areas.
The steps
- Create a profile on the SACPCMP online portal (mypcm.sacpcmp.org.za) and choose your category. You can apply for more than one category, but you start with one profile.
- Upload certified qualifications, ID and your CV, then pay the application fee. No application is processed before payment.
- As a Candidate, work under a registered mentor and keep your logbook and evidence current. Most rejected professional applications fail on weak evidence, not on years served.
- When you meet the experience requirement, apply for Professional registration. Two assessors score the eligibility assessment and you need at least 60% to move on.
- Attend the professional interview: a panel of at least three members, roughly two hours, with a 60% pass mark.
- Pay the registration fee, then the annual fee each year, and keep up your CPD.

How to show it on your CV and LinkedIn
Write the category and status in full in your headline: "Candidate Construction Project Manager (SACPCMP)" or "Pr CPM". A bare "SACPCMP registered" makes the reader guess which category you hold. Never list a registration that has lapsed for non-payment.
