ICT CV keywords in South Africa: the complete guide for IT, cloud, data and security jobs
How South African ICT recruiters search: stack first, certification second, scale third. Keyword lists for 16 ICT roles and cost guides for the certifications they ask for.
ICT recruitment is the most keyword-driven hiring in South Africa. Recruiters and applicant tracking systems search the stack first, then the certification, then the industry. A CV that puts its languages in paragraph four, or says "cloud" without saying which cloud, may never be opened.
Put the stack in the headline
Your headline is the most heavily weighted text in a LinkedIn search. For ICT roles it should name the main platform or language and one certification: "Cloud Engineer · Azure & Terraform · AZ-104" beats "Passionate technology professional".

Certifications do the job a council registration does elsewhere
Most ICT roles have no statutory register, so vendor certifications are the screening layer. List each one with the year you passed it. Cost and route guides: CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, AWS, Microsoft (Azure, M365, Power BI), Cisco CCNA, CISSP, CISM, ITIL 4 Foundation and IIBA CBAP.
For a professional designation, the IITPSA guide covers PMIITPSA and Pr.CIO, the SAQA-registered designations for senior ICT practitioners.
Compliance terms South African employers add
Banks, insurers, telcos and government add local law and frameworks to security, data and infrastructure adverts. If you built or ran controls for them, name them.
Scale is the tie-breaker
- Support and infrastructure: users, sites, devices, tickets a month, uptime.
- Development and DevOps: users served, deployment frequency, lead time, incidents.
- Data: rows or terabytes, refresh frequency, the decision your analysis changed.
- Security: incidents handled, mean time to respond, audit findings closed.
- Management: budget, team size, the transformation you led.
Show the work
A GitHub repo, a live app, a public dashboard or a design portfolio does more than any keyword. Link one, and say in a line what it does and what you built.

Mistakes that cost ICT interviews
- A skills list of forty tools with no sign of which ones you use daily.
- Certifications without dates, or expired ones listed as current.
- "Responsible for the network" with no size, vendor or result.
- Leaving out the industry. A bank and a mine hire for very different context.
